Leonard Peltier has been in prison for 34 years for the murder of an FBI agent who went down during the siege at Wounded Knee. Everyone involved knows well that there wasnt a case against him and many from the original prosecution have even said so. I think it’s well past time to free the man and initiate an era of real justice and healing wherein we can learn to be worthy of this beautiful land we live in.
In honor of Leonard Peltier’s birthday, many people are gathering in this country and abroad. Maybe you’ll find a way to one of these gatherings to show your support for LP or visit WHO IS LEONARD PELTIER to follow what’s happening.
Over at worldcrit.bandcamp I put up two songs for the occasion. You can play them, get them for free and share with amigos. May You Find Your Sun Dance and if you talk with Creator please ask Him/Her/Is to allow Leonard a few Sun Dances on the outside.
The Western Family Orchestra is a group of musicians and songwriters who play each other’s songs, plus classics from the Country, Soul and American Songbook. We always invite guests to join in and usually end up with a few too many people on stage.
Our home has been the Make-Out Room in San Francisco, where we meet every couple of months on a Sunday and put a show together. This year, we are producing a series of live music radio shows – featuring regional and national acts in a casual west coast opry format – with a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and KVMR, Nevada City CA.
The debut of the WESTERN FAMILY ORCHESTRA RADIO HOUR will be recorded live at the historic Nevada Theater in Nevada City, CA – and we are very pleased to have some special guests joining us for the night:
Tickets : $10 General / $8 Students; available online at brown paper tickets and at The Briar Patch (Grass Valley) and After the Goldrush Records (Nevada City).
Years ago when I moved to SF, I cooked soul food in a jazz club 7 nights a week and lived in a hotel with weekly rates in the Tenderloin, a coin-op television above my bed and a bottle of Carlo Rossi below it. Whenever I had a day off I’d make my way to North Beach, read books in the 3rd floor of City Lights and walk around Chinatown.
In Fall ’09 I moved back to the city and landed in North Beach. This video is a love letter to the old heart of the city and an invitation to come out and see me and my friends some time if your ever in the neighborhood or want a trip out of town.
